A importância de que o Twitter se tem revestido em todos os acontecimentos dos últimos dias no Irão é analisada em dois artigos indispensáveis:

The Revolution Will Be Twittered (por Marc Ambinder) e Iran's Twitter Revolution (de Ari Berman). Um excerto do último:

«Forget CNN or any of the major American "news" networks. If you want to get the latest on the opposition protests in Iran, you should be reading blogs, watching YouTube or following Twitter updates from Tehran, minute-by-minute.»

e um excerto mais longo do primeiro:

Why hasn't Mousavi been arrested or killed? Iran's regime is thuggish, but I don't think it wants to risk further alienating Europe or China. And I surmise that because the Iranian government knows that the opposition -- maybe we should call them the silent majority? -- has ways of communicating and organizing outside of their control. Mousavi would become an instant martyr. Twitter, Facebook, blogs -- and the mainstream media -- are all colluding to keep hope alive for the Iranian people
