Boom 2012 will be in sync with the first full moon of August 2012. Stay hyper-connected, the dates will be announced soon…

Dear Boomer,

Firstly, a big THANK YOU for contributing to this current of sacred energy that has carried us into 2011!

We became aware that our collective DNA is resonating with the planetary shift in the cosmos around us and we have chosen to be conscious co-creators to help manifest the changes that the Sacred Earth and the human consciousness is calling us to do.

This is how we rolled in 2010. So with accelerated consciousness, we continue to feel the pulse of the Universe greater than ever this year: Thank you once again dear Boomer, for contributing the energy of your heart and soul to make this latest Boom edition, one of the most Boombastic experiences ever!

When we converged under the glimmering light of the August full moon, we intertwined with the soul of a wonderful natural paradise – the gift of Gaia. Each of us has taken that energy back to the different parts of the Sacred Earth, spreading the seeds of global consciousness, and the choices we are making in those places can lead us along the path of unconditional love, peace and harmony with each other and all living entities.

It seems apathy in the world is dying. Several movements boare activating civil society, bringing people together to learn about what is happening in the world and empowering citizens to make change happen. Movements like Wikileaks, the approach of Transition Tows, the Zeitgeist movement, the student protests in UK, the awakening of the anonymous brothers in the Middle East, several peaceful activist communities around the world, the resurgence of shamanism and Mayan heritage, the propagation of Amazonian sacred medicine and transpersonal psychology or the permaculture-ethos – several cells are blossoming on the planetary consciousness on the way to 2012. Find the way, but find your own way.

Now in 2011, we prepare for next year’s Winter Solstice alignment of the sun and the Milky Way.

We are already designing both the new caravan and car park, caravans inside the festival venue are an imperative. The first meetings for Boom 2012 are starting and art projects are already being planned.

Boom 2012 is going to be an interactive, vibrant, spiritual, cosmic encounter, energized by the spirit of the dragon! We will be riding this wave together as we absorb the energy of the festival – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, consciously, naturally – with unconditional love for each other and for the world as we feel the planetary shift penetrate our collective DNA.

With Love, Peace, Light and Gratitude

A SPECIAL BOOM IS NEAR!‏

Boom's Info Stand work in progress

Dear Boomer,

We are finally approaching the day we’ve been awaiting for so long: the opening of Boom 2010.

Our ticket sales came to an end on July 31st. It was the end of a long cycle that started back in December. It was with your support through ticket funding that we could start the whole Boom production, commissioning projects and finding the proper setting to offer you an unforgettable experience. Thank you Boomers, for all your support.
Over the months we moved location, we built up an amazing team, discovered incredible artists that are currently onsite putting together probably the most art-oriented Boom ever.

Our production team has been amazing. Working around the clock for almost a year, they are the rocks and pillars of strength that have made this possible. Working onsite, the construction teams are the hidden warriors of Boom, working hard day and night in hot summer conditions to make this a very special Boom. Together we are building a psychedelic village, a temporary autonomous zone where art and respect for the Sacred Earth are imperatives.

As far as tickets are concerned, we’ve had the biggest figures in pre-sales ever. Numbers went above our expectations and even better have been the lovely messages that have making us smiley people. “It is going to be a special Boom”, or “this is going to be history” or “the spirit of Boom is back” are just some of the messages we have received.

Despite the success of ticket sales we kept a number of tickets to be sold at the gates. Last edition we saw the number of people at the gates that had no way of getting in. This is not something we want to repeat this year, which is why we have made tickets available at the gates.

This means you can start to plan your journey to Boom. We suggest reading the menu of our website (www.boomfestival.org) and going to the BOOM GUIDE for a better understanding of how you can plan your visit.

Please pay attention to your garbage and be sure to leave no trace; respect the environment and the people around you.

BOOM 2010 | THE GATHERING OF THE TRIBES‏

What Is Boom?... Intercultural. Multidisciplinary for sure. It is also trans-generational. Even better is being independent and sustainable. So much things?, you might ask.

Answer is simple: since 1997 we’ve been reinventing ourselves to capture new horizons for Boomers. We run away from stagnation and we can’t conceive a festival based on line-ups and dance floors. We are dedicated to catalyze evolution. Boom is about mindfulness. Boom is about creativity. Boom is about change.

Be a part of this Dream. Be a part of Boom 2010

The new project of Boom Environmental Program is the BOOM LAB. We are focusing on being both sustainable and independent by developing our own technologies. We are focusing on Energy.

We are an inclusive festival - families are welcome! We are teaming up with a permaculture school rooted in the waldorf pedagogy for the Baby Boom 2010. There is a zone in the camping where parents are priorities.

We won the Greener Festival Award 2008 – Outstanding Prize. But more important than awards are the practices. Our environmental efforts are increasing and we got one more recognisement - this time, the UN invited us for the UN Music & Environment Stakeholder Initiative.

Boom Bug, entrances and what we want to improve from previous editions. Nothing is perfect and last year we had problems that we are working on to solve. A new location is the first major change. Here is a list of things that didn’t went well in 2008 and our measures to improve it.

We have no sponsors, we like to be independent and we do a festival for Boomers, not for corporations. Freedom For Our Minds! Brands will not invade your cognitive liberty at Boom. Unlike most of the public spaces worldwide, there is no brandalism at Boom Festival.

The Boom experience is made out of conscious and visionary knowledge for more than 10 years time. In 2010 we are making an avant-garde fusion between Liminal Zone and Theatroom with a new area: The Drop. The Liminal Zone 2010 is under the concept of “Frontiers”.

People from almost 60 countries already purchased the Boom ticket. The tribes are joining together once again at Boom. 3rd phase of Boom tickets is running fast, get yours as tickets are limited to keep the vibe alive!

26 DAYS TILL BOOM! As we approach the dates of the festival, anticipation mounts and the excitement builds...

Dear Boomer,

This stage defines the final stage for purchasing tickets, either via Boom ambassadors or via the on-line e-ticket service. For those who prefer to plan their adventure to Boom, deadline for purchasing tickets has been set for 31st July. We understand that many of you may want to wait, so we also have made sure there will also be tickets available at the gates.

Production is in full swing with many of the structures, including the Dance Temple, The Drop, Groovy Beach and Sacred Fire nearing completion. Behind the scenes, excitement is mounting and spirits are high amongst the Boom staff who are anticipating the arrival of the thousands of beautiful Boomers that will be injecting the Boom Land with a potent dose of LOVE.

Positive, inspired, happy tribes are preparing the festival grounds for Boomers as we write these words to you...

We would like to share with you just some of the developments that have been taking place behind the scenes of Boom by presenting the Dusty Dragon journal – an internal newspaper for people who are building boom on site, documenting the progress of the teams that have been working hard around the clock to produce the festival. It includes details of the structures, the teams, the spirit and the work ethics that will no doubt contribute to a BOOMbastic event we will surely not forget!!!

Download the Dusty Dragon here (PDF format)!

MINIMIZE PACKING AND IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

For those who are planning on travelling light, Boom collaborators, Overland Outdoor have conjured up a unique tent hire service, which means that camping equipment - including tents, double and single inflatable mattresses, pillows, sheets, shade and lighting can be hired on site.
Including 24-hour secure camping, your bed will be ready waiting for you when you arrive. Costing 30 euros per night, or a full package at a special rate, the idea behind the tent hire service has been designed to create a comfortable, easygoing experience for Boomers and to minimize packing. It also avoids the number of tents that often get abandoned after Boom is over - minimizing our collective impact on the environment.

To reserve a tent, please send an email to: boomcamping@overland.tur.br

Meanwhile, the on-site Boom Shop will be supplying camping gear and a selection of eco-health products. For more information about the on-site Boom Shop, please email: commercialsupport@boomfestival.org

Galactic space travellers, funkadelik voyageurs of time, beautiful tribes of the world – come and give some love and respect to the Sacred Earth; bring your art, wear it on your sleeve – now is the time, let's make it happen!

WHAT IS NEW IN BOOM 2010?

• A new location! Expect much more trees and a stunning lake for a better experience.
• Better accesses for you to avoid traffic jams.
• An amazing shaded camping area for all Boomers.
• We are expanding our program by one more day. We are now a 7-day long worldwide gathering.
• We present 4 music stages and smaller sound systems to spread sound vibes all over the venue. The freshest music around is showcased at Boom!
• The Drop Area: A new area where we are putting together Theatroom and the Liminal Village. Knowledge and visionary art meets performing arts!
• Sustainability: We are keeping up the tradition of presenting pioneering projects in energy, waste, recycling, composting toilets and materials.
• New concepts and new ideas: We are presenting new concepts at Boom. Find them at Boom 2010.

TICKET SALES AT THE GATES

We are changing to a new location in order to solve some problems, like the entrance traffic and to offer more comfort to Boomers. We don’t want you to have more traffic jams. For that reason we want to avoid having box offices and tickets sales on site. Get your ticket in advance to facilitate the entrance of the new site.

BOOM BUS: AVOIDING CARBON FOOTPRINT

We all want to reduce the environmental impact of the festival and one of the main ways we can do this is to reduce the amount of cars turning up. This year Boom Bus, our public transport service, has an extended service of entrance one day before the event, on August 17th.

FREE OF CHARGE

Boom Festival provides free of charge services: car park and caravan park, water, toilets and showers.

BOOM MUSIC IN SOUNDCLOUD

Boom Festival created a group where you can listen some tunes from the artists that are going to play during the full moon of August. This is a taster of Boom's music to be listened at

BOOM Festival 2010 - 8th edition - 9:00 dia 18 de Agosto em Idanha a Nova

Six full moons remain to Boom 2010. Our teams are now putting all efforts in the engineering behind the design of all structures. Artists are delivering cutting-edge artworks that will send Boom 2010 into the next level of aesthetics. Prepare for a feast of eye blowing optical-wizardry!

The new location have been pushing our sensations to high levels. Flowers are now starting to pop up and the majestic settings of the venue assure us you will have better conditions to camp and party than in the previous venue.

Boom has been taking many environmental actions towards sustainability. This includes waste management, recycling, composting, energy management to source renewable energy options and water treatment based on plants. The Sacred Earth need Boomers to be even more involved - let's all do the change.

Adopt Zero Waste

We are going to share a beautiful natural place with the opportunity to call it our communal home. Together we can show we can make a difference in the world. Keep the Boom clean. Leave no trace. Adopt the ethics of Zero Waste!

Use Public Transport

Instead of taking your car into Boom why not use the local bus service to get to and from the festival? Boom Bus is our contribution to make your life easy while being environmentally conscious. To avoid carbon emissions, an increased carbon footprint, and at the same time help you in finding the best place in the camping area, Boom Bus users have special entrance on August 17th, one day before gates officially open.
More info here.

Don't Waste Water…

When you are showering, please make sure you use minimal water and turn the tap off whilst shampooing. Bring organic shampoos and soaps. If you're using one of the drinkable water standpipes around the site to fill bottles please don't leave water running.

…And Respect The Lake

Reading Masaru Emoto’s amazing books we get to know water as a living being that accumulates our vibrations. A stunning lake that needs to be taken care of and cleaned surrounds Boom. Please don’t make the lake dirty. Don´t leave a dark trace on this physical dimension.

Get On A Bike!

There is a lot of walking to do at Boom. That is a good thing. It is a weeklong gathering, so why bother with time? Time is art… So if you are a campervan fan, the best and greener way to get around the festival, besides walking, is biking. Even better, you can travel to Boom by bike as our friends Stan and Joost, from Belgium, did in 2008. Check their noble achievement here.

No Glass

No glass is allowed on site. Two reasons for this: litter and the fact that with sunlight lost glass can increase the risks of fire on the land. Please decant your drinks into reusable cans before you arrive. If you can’t avoid plastic, please use the recycling bins.

Hey, Where Is Your Tent?

Taking down all of the tents left behind after the festival is a hard task. All garbage left behind and hundreds of tents make the best screenplay for the dark side of Boom (soon we’ll reveal photos from 2008). Most of the tents are not in proper conditions after being used by the Boomers therefore we have no choice in most cases except to send them to garbage containers. Please take all your personal waste away with you, including used tents.

Buy Less, Use Less: Simple Living, High Thinking

Do you really need to bring so much packaging to Boom? Look at what the enlightened Mahatma Gandhi wrote back in 1931: “The incessant search for material comforts and their multiplication is such an evil, and I make bold to say that the humans themselves will have to remodel their outlook, if they are not to perish under the weight of the comforts to which they are becoming slaves”. Need we say more?

We Are No-Corporate Logo Area

Boom is a no-corporate logo area to encourage a culture of cognitive liberty, conscious consumption and change. Our mind is limitless and we are one with the universe. Find the way, but find your own way - support independence.

What About the Boom Tickets?

Boom tickets are having a buzz that resonates throughout Saturn rings. Tickets are limited and there’s a contagious enthusiasm throughout both the tribes of the conventional reality and the astral worlds. Not much 2nd phase tickets are left – get yours on a cheap price. You can get your ticket to Boom Festival through the website or via Boom Ambassadors. Beware of counterfeit tickets. Buy your tickets only through authorized Boom Ambassadors mentioned on our website.

BOOM 2010 IN A NEW LOCATION‏

The 8th edition of Boom Festival is in a new location. It is held in the lake of Idanha-a-Nova but in a new venue full of shade, which is flatter, greener, and has better access routes. This change was motivated by the need for offering our public better conditions to party. Under the theme of Water, we are expanding our minds to feel the hidden dimensions of nature in a new venue.

Amazing views. Beautiful. Astonishing. These have been some of the words used to describe Boom’s venue. Since 2002 Boom Festival occurred 4 times at the same venue on the shores of the lake of Idanha-a-Nova. However in 2010 we are changing location. Our main goal is to provide you with a better and more comfortable place to party!

Due to the increasing numbers of public, some of the limitations of the old venue started to arise:

- Being a peninsula, major traffic problems began to appear. It was impossible to widen the access road to get into the peninsula and this caused huge traffic jams. We maintain our apologies for all those that waited for hours in the queue. Thanks for all those that practised the virtue of patience before getting in.

- Due to the fact that it is a cowfarming place all year long we couldn’t control its physical and hygienic conditions throughout the year.

- It is a rugged terrain. That didn’t provide the best conditions for our public to camp and rest comfortably.
- It is extremely dry.
- It does not have much natural shade for people to refresh and feel better in the hot Portuguese climate.

We started to look for places that would offer more safety and comfort to all our public. The solution was not far - still on the shores of the lake of Idanha-a-Nova but in a different terrain.

Why Are We Moving To Another Venue in 2010?

- It has hundreds of century-old trees that will provide much more shade and playful moments.
- The camping area is flat and you can sleep much more comfortably than in the previous venue.
- The terrain is not as rugged as the previous one.
- The entrance roads and accesses are easier. We are working on a plan to avoid all traffic jams.
- The new terrain offers us wider possibilities to develop projects on permaculture and design Boom Festival under premises of environmental sustainability.

Close friends say this is the best mix between both terrains where Boom has been held. The Mediterranean forest of Herdade do Zambujal (Boom 97, 98 and 2000) and Herdade do Torrão (Boom 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008). It has the magic of trees and hidden forest beings and the wide views, the stunning lake and the amazing nature of Idanha-a-Nova.

See some pictures of the new Boom venue here

Stay tuned for more news and images of the new venue of Boom 2010 on this website!

The 2nd Phase of Boom 2010 tickets is running extremely well. Tickets are limited, don´t miss your chance of getting your ticket at a cheap price. You can purchase your tickets through the Boom website and the Boom Ambassador network. Be part of the Boom Dream!

1st Phase of Boom Tickets Expanded‏

1ST PHASE OF BOOM TICKETS EXPANDED

The 1st phase of Boom etickets is extended to December 30th.

Every time a child is born there is a rush for normalization and annihilation of our intuitive nature. The need to control the babies spans from education through to acculturation. Even worse is facing children as mere data producers. Nowadays there are applications to mobile phones that track every movement of babies: cries, sleep, laughs or every time the child talks and plays. Children are now being faced on the percentile basis and it seems a new era of developmental psychology is arising: Baby Tracking.

In a world where children are tracked down and controlled, where leaders can’t understand each other in order to change both the economic and environmental paradigms. In this planet where dominant culture says it’s all about control, pressure and running after time… we need a break. We must call for a pause - on our life habits, on our thoughts.

So we breed that idea and apply it onto our ticket dates.

We are expanding our 1st phase online tickets till December 30th.

Just as the take off of 1st Phase ticket sales was delayed by more than a month, we think it’s fair to extend the closing date of 1st Phase by two weeks.

We don’t want you to run after time. We’d like to have all Boomers as art practitioners that use time creatively. No need to rush after the dates for getting your cheap tickets – you now have until December 30th to purchase your ticket at the lowest price.

This is our way to thank all of the Boom community for their support and affection. Live the celebration of free spirits at Boom 2010!

Theme Boom 2010

Life is too precious to be squandered in a disenchanted world
Mia Couto

While travelling the world all members of our team faced an inspirational pulse towards water. Not only the physical element itself, but also the symbolism and that which is invisible in water. It’s amazing adaptation to external conditions and continuous cycles. How its energy is directed downwards in connection to the Sacred Earth. For 2010 we decided to pay homage to water.

Water is essential for all dimensions of life. The water we use today has been around for hundreds of millions of years, and the amount available probably hasn’t changed very much. Water moves around the world, changes forms, is taken in by plants and animals, but never really disappears. It travels in a large, continuous cycle. In this sense water stands for a continuous reusing and recycling, a metaphor for one of Boom’s paradigms, the sustainable ethos.

Philosophically, the watercourse-way is an expression that alludes perfectly to what Taoism describes as appropriate behaviour. This “way” is wonderfully described in the Book of Change:

“The water endlessly flows and fills, up to a certain limit, the corners it is flowing through; Under all circumstances, it remains equal to its nature.”

According to Tao belief, water is that which gives life to all and asks nothing in return. The Chinese made from water the residence of the dragon, since all living beings come alive from water. In Chinese medicine, water is an energy that is directed downward to the earth thus connecting to it.

In Hermeticism, water is Nun, the substance of which all gods come from in the first Ennead. Among the Vedas, the water is called mâtriatamâh (primal mother), because, in the beginning, everything was like a sea without light. In India, it is generally considered that the water element keeps life that flows through all nature in the form of rain, sap, milk and blood. Unlimited and immortal, water is at the beginning and end of all things.

In its apparent formlessness, in ancient cultures we found the distinction between the upper waters and the down waters. The former symbolize the possibilities of virtual creation, the latter correspond to the completion of nature. The fire element acts, in this case, as the modifier of water and, therefore, the sun (spirit) makes the water from the sea evaporate (subliming life).

The water condenses into clouds and returns to earth as fertilizing rain. This double virtue derives from both its aquatic and celestial nature. Lao-Tzu paid great attention to this phenomenon of rotating water, both physical and spiritual, and said:

“The water does not stop day or night. If it circulates on the heights, it leads the rain and fog. If it circulates underneath, it forms the streams and rivers. The water stands for doing good. If a dike is opposed to it it holds up. If you open a pathway, it runs along it. That’s why we say that water does not fight. However, nothing compares to it to break the strong and the tough.”

The alchemists called water the mercury in the first stage of transformation and, by analogy, the fluid body of mankind. Current psychology interprets it as a symbol of the universal unconscious where all symbols come from.

The theme for Boom 2010 is an embodyment of the concept of immersion in water. It symbolizes a return to the pre-formal, with a sense of rebirth and new movement, as immersion multiplies the potential of life. The symbolism of baptism, always related to water, is central in Christianity or Hinduism. When he dives into the water the old man is completely immersed. When he leaves the water, the new man suddenly appears.

The Water On the Planet We Have Today

Since the Industrial Revolution, most of our world’s rivers have been treated unwisely as a convenient way of transporting waste to sea, affecting the biodiversity of thousands of kilometers of waterways, harming human health, and in the end polluting coastal and marine waters.

Of all the trends to watch, James Lovelock maintains sea level rise is the most important. Given the complexity of the millions of interactions within the Gaia system, Lovelock argues it is best to ignore year-to-year temperature fluctuations and instead watch the oceans. The seas, he says, are the lone trustworthy indicator of the earth’s heat balance. “Sea level rise is the best available measure of the heat absorbed by the earth because it comes from only two things. These are the melting of the glaciers and the expansion of water as it warms. Sea level is the thermometer that indicates true global heating.”

Lovelock argues that oceans will expand fuelled by feedback loops such as loss of reflective ice cover, replaced by heat absorvent dark water; the death of carbon-eating algae as oceans warm and acidify. These cycles will explode in the coming decades, and we must stop the fashionable rhetoric about sustainable development and “weave the sound of the alarm clock into our dreams. We will need to respond more like the inhabitants of a city threatened by a flood. We have to stop pretending there is a way back to that comfortable and beautiful Earth we left behind in the 20th century”
